The following is a letter inviting those of you from bukidnon and nearby areas to join in a world AIDS day event tomorrow. we hope you can participate:
Hi Rico,
It warms our heart to know that you agreed to support us in this endeavor. Thank you very much!
Our World AIDS Day event for this year is dubbed "Barog, Bukidnon! Year II – Battle of the Bands and Leadership Pledge," the event will be held on Saturday, December 1, 2007, 4 pm (until around midnight – we have at least twenty bands that will participate) at the Bukidnon State University (BSU) Gymnasium. Tickets will be sold for only P20.00 each. We will also sell AIDS Day ribbons for P2.00 each.

Since we want to target the youth, yuppies and young adults, we thought of conducting a band contest and a leadership pledge wherein the attendees will reiterate their promise to do his or her share to be more responsible citizens. We want to encourage them to participate in the global effort to help eradicate the deadly disease by year 2015. This year's WAD holds the "Leadership – Stop AIDS. Keep the Promise" theme and because of this we also want to urge the youngsters to take a more active role in the fight against AIDS.
Our event will also serve another worthwhile purpose – proceeds will go to the BSU Educators Troop - Girl Scouts Cadets. This cadet troop has just been a recipient of local, regional and national environment-related awards. Unfortunately, this troop barely has any seed money to continue their projects – right now, they're just using a part of our family-owned vacant lot in Malaybalay City for them to continue their vermiculture and other environment-related projects. The money that will be raised during the event will be used to fund their projects, to continue recruitment, to be able to attend camps and training sessions and to buy raw materials and needed equipment for their advocacies. Part of the money that will be raised will also go to a mini-day care for children of indigent families in Bukidnon. Most of these kids are malnourished and barely have pairs of slippers to use. The teachers there are also volunteers and the "classroom" that they use is just being lent by a generous donor. We plan to buy slippers, school supplies and food (particularly milk and rice) for these children. Hopefully the money will help start a drive for the Bugcaon Day Care Center.
Thank you again and if ever anybody (especially other Flames! =) ) would want to attend the show, buy ribbons, donate or help out in any way, they can contact us via mobile number (+63) 919 238 6575 or send email to girlscoutsbukidnon@gmail.com - donors will be acknowledged during the show. We'll also send photos and a report of the money that we'll hopefully raise! =)
Thank you, Rico! God bless you always =)
